It is becoming more and more common for successful musicians to have some basic training in the rudiments of music, especially in the areas of meter, rhythm, harmony and arranging. Moreover, there are many user-friendly computer programs available to facilitate the understanding and use of any of these components. This presentation will look at these elements and the programs that are available to help the aspiring popular musician.
Glen Ethier received his Ph.D in music theory from the University of British Columbia. He has taught at McGill University and Queen’s University in Kingston, and is currently the department coordinator for the Vanier College Department of Music. In his spare time, Glen also performs in two successful local rock bands.
